Why was the Fenway Family Coalition formed?
Fenway CDC launched the Fenway Family Coalition in 1994 in response to the isolation and lack of support that Fenway families experience.
Who are we?
We are a group of parents or individuals who meet once per month (usually the third Thursday) to plan fun, friendly family activities and strategize on what we need for our community.
What are the challenges that Fenway Families face?
Rising housing prices and lack of larger apartment sizes for families are forcing families out of the neighborhood. Anything else?? Lack of a school in the neighborhood? Lack of a community center or after school programming nearby?
What are some of the Fenway Family Coalition’s accomplishments over the years?
• Organized family-oriented community events including the Annual Safe Trick or Treating and Halloween Party.
• Organized neighborhood ice cream parties at our local Edgerly Road Park.
• Organized a Mother’s Day Brunch at Morville House.
• Founded a Fenway Afterschool program (no longer in service).
• Compiled a Resource Guide with information about child care and after school programs; education and employment programs for children and adults; health care;housing; and social services such as legal advocacy, food and utility assistance.
• Advocated for the creation and of two neighborhood playgrounds in the Fenway.
• Mail out regular Fenway Family Coalition Newsletter to inform parents of meetings and human service programs to help assist families with jobs for teens, food, etc. until the new Fenway Family 411 website is up and running.
